Loose Weight For Free: Eat Well, Drink Lots of Water & Exercise

It is incorrect to say loose weight for free. However, in here free means that you don't sign up for any loose weight programs. All you need is to change your bad habits and bring on the discipline.

You already buying food, so why not buy good healthy food. Note foods high in salt will make you eat more.

PROTEIN - eat about 6 good servings of protein a day; how to measure your serving simple, size of your palm.
CARBOHYDRATES - eat about 6 good servings of carbohydrates a day; serving defined as above.
VEGETABLES - eat unlimited amount of vegetables, or have the same amount as protein and carbohydrates.

DRINK - drink about 10 glasses of water, try to drink before or after meals; drinking during meals dilutes the digestive enzymes thus your digestion my slow down.

EXERCISE - simple walking will do; start with 20 minutes walk, and gradually increase to 40 or 1 hour; try to pick roads that are uphill. Bring friend with you.

To find out what foods are good for you check out Canada's Food Guide.

How about your cravings? Well, we all know sweets are carbohydrates and with lots of sugar. The more carbohydrates you eat, the more you want to eat. Well pick a day of the week and treat yourself with cookies or cakes, but only once a week to satisfy your craving.

Hope you can follow the above steps. After few months after you adjust yourself to the following nutritional plan, you can enhance your program even more. The reason I don't want to write anything enhanced here yet because people get overwhelmed and either don't do it at all, or do it once and get discouraged.

With this plan your weight loss is slow, but effective, healthy and enjoyable. Be patient.

The Cold-FX website released the following statement about Redeeming Your Internet Printable Coupon and action to take in case it is refused.

'Even though this coupon contains all of the information necessary for redemption, there is still a chance that some stores may refuse to redeem online coupons. This may happen because of confusion by local store employees about the corporate policy on redeeming online coupons.

Here are steps you can take in advance, to help prevent this from occurring:
  • Stop at the customer service counter before you shop and receive advance approval on the online printed coupons you plan to use. If the employee at the service counter does not approve your coupons, ask to speak with a manager.
  • When shopping at national grocery store chains, contact the corporate office and ask for a letter which outlines the corporate online printed coupon redemption policy. Bring the letter with you to show to cashiers and store managers.
  • When printing online coupons do not clip the coupon, take the entire sheet of paper. This will allow the store manager to see the name of Web site of where you got the coupons. Many times they are familiar with the company, but not the coupon.'

Supermarket Review: Real Canadian SuperStore - Flayer, Online, Renovations

Last year before Christmas Real Canadian Superstore started store renovations and also re-designing their online store look. It took a while for the consumers to adjust, since they moved things around in the store a lot. Comments like this would be heard - 'It used to be here', 'Oh this is now to expensive with round down'. It seems better now, as consumers got know the store better, plus the local store, for example one in Aurora Ontario offered free appreciation coupons - free cheese, juice and BBQ ribs. It took forever to get the ribs, as they were always not in stock.

However, dissatisfaction comes from looking at the weekly flayer online. It used to be a mirror image of the printed version. Now it is store online look alike, lists individual items. Its nice and clean, but most of the time the products are not even clearly visible - too small to see. Since, some of us like to look at the deals online, this whole change isn't something consumer would look forward too. Simple search would not even find pampers diapers.

Everyday Find Over 2000 Prices Rounded Down is a newest campaign to attract more consumers to Superstore. Great deals can be found, no doubt. The look is not so great, but who cares when the price is right. When the 2000 Prices Rounded Down was introduced, it clearly showed similarities to the Wal-mart printed flayer, the rounded numbers and never mind the color scheme. Is this to confuse the consumers, or someone creating this campaign didn't have the imagination?

Lastly, with the great renovation no body thought of fixing the self-serve bag loading dock. Very inconvenient design for the reusable bags and recyclable boxes. Seems like we all tend to overlook the hardest projects.

Electricity Saving Tip - Cook With Lids

By using newest designs of the pots and pans, and lids you can actually save some some money on the electricity bill.
  • When using lids, you reduce amount of steam, so you don't have to run fan.
  • When using lids, you can cook on the lower heat, because all the heat is trapped in the pot.
  • When using lids, you can also cook faster, that is reducing time of cooking.
  • When using lids made of glass, you can reduce number of times you have to look at your cooking food.
Recommendations, beside using lids. Try to use energy efficient pots and pans, that have good heat conducting bottoms. And in addition to the above last point, lids made of glass are good so you can see better what is going on, instead of lifting to see. Lots of steam and heat can escape that way.

Winterize Your Home - Stop Air Drafts with Weatherstripping and Air Sealing

It is very common to have air leaks in the house. Many of them come from windows and electrical outlets. The average house in Canada looses up to 40 % of heat due to air leaks. Air sealing and weatherstripping can help to reduce amount of air leaks in your house. The electrical outlet air leak can be sealed with a weatherstrip outlet plate. These products can be easily found at Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Lowe's or other hardware outlets.

Time-of-Use Electricity Prices & How To Adapt

Back in October 2009 our household received a notice that the Time-of-Use price schedule is in effect. Two things happened. Firstly the PowerStream notified us that the new Electricity Prices & Charges for York Region customers are in effect since September 1st, 2009. Little late notice. Secondly, they send us historical data based on last year electricity consumption data that give us a comparison of constant rates versus the time-of-use rates. Another disappointment, if we were to be on the time-of-use method last year, we would have paid more for electricity by $2.33.

However, the Time-of-Use for York Region is in effect and there is nothing we can do but adapt. The Time-of-Use has different electricity rates, depending when the electricity is used. It has three periods, Off-peak, Mid-peak and On-peak. The most expensive rate of course is during On-peak. For example, our Time-of-Use rates from PowerStream are: for Off-Peak is $0.042 per kWh, for Mid-Peak is $0.076 per kWh, and On-Peak is $0.091 per kWh.

Another interesting fact about the Time-of-Use is that the price do change for on, mid and off-peak between Summer and Winter. The hours for On-Peak prices for summer season (May 1 - October 31) are between 11 am and 5 pm. The hours for On-Peak prices for winter season (November 1 - April 30) are from 5 pm to 9 pm. The PowerStream recommends to run dishwasher and dryer after 9 pm, or on weekends or holidays. But then how about the oven - another great electricity eater, coincidentally we need to eat too. The On-Peak during winter season falls on dinner time, a time when parents, children get home and dinners are being prepared. But then what could be worst, cooking dinner during summer time and running the air conditioner.

Now let me tell you how we changed our life style to follow the Time-of-Use price periods.
  • As per recommendations we run our dryer after 9 pm and weekends or holidays, and if the laundry really needs to be done, then just washer is used, and clothes are hanged.
  • We need to eat. Therefore, I use my toaster oven which uses much less energy than the regular oven.
  • We do batch cooking after 9 pm.
  • Air conditioning will be interesting, it all depends how hot next summer will be. May be we should finish the basement, as it is always cooler in the lower parts of the house.
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has much better recommendations how to Make The Shift to the Time-of-Use price periods and the Ontario Power Authority - Every Kilowatt Counts has a lot of good information for you to study.

Product Recall - Flashing Eyeball Filled With Petroleum Distillates

Petroleum distillates are hydrocarbon solvents manufactured from the crude oil. The hydrocarbon solvents include mineral spirits, white spirits, kerosene, naphtha, and Stoddard solvent.

And if you didn't know about the Stoddard solvent, it is a colorless, flammable liquid. It smells and tastes like kerosene. At temperature range of 150-200 C it will turn into a vapor. This solvent has many usages and it is used as a paint thinner, as a dry cleaning solvent in some photocopier toners and printing inks, and as a general cleaner and de-greaser.

Petroleum distillates in general are good for removal of heavy oils, grease, tar and waxes because they have a low surface tension; therefore, they can easily penetrate and clean small spaces and grooves. These solvents are flammable, therefore, it is recommended to use them at or near the room temperature.

Petroleum distillates are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and its usage in Canada especially in toys is strictly prohibited. These solvents must be recycled by distillation. Disposal is performed by the chemical incineration in an approved facility in your area.

Flashing Eyeball Recall

The recent recalled product by Health Canada on December 29, 2009  is a Flashing Eyeball that contains low viscosity petroleum distillates, a toxic liquid that can be released if the toy is broken. This toy was sold exclusively at Pier 1 stores. The fake eyeball toy will display in various colored lights when knocked against the hard surfaces. Approximately 770 units been sold in Pier 1 stores across Canada from September to December 2009. Toy was made in China.

For further information you can read more on the Canada Government Consumer Recall Products.

Cost of Driving Your Car - Consumption Rate per Kilometer

With the increasing gas prices sometimes driving a long distance to the retailer or supermarket with your 50 cents coupon may not be a good deal after all. You will save 50 cents, but to get there it may cost you $1.6 in gas, not to mention depreciation of your car since you are putting extra millage. Therefore, it is actually good to know your vehicle's gasoline consumption rate per km, and here is a simple method how to calculate this consumption rate [$/L].

Let A be the Price of the Gas per Litre [$/L]
Let B be the Volume of Car's Tank [L]
Let C be the Total Distance per Car Tank [km/L]
Let D be the Cost of Gas per Km [$/km]

Value of A may change depending on the day. We all know that gas prices are volatile. Value of B is constant, because your car tank will always be the same size. Value of C is approximate, because it depends where and how you drive, your gas consumption may vary; however, just take an average number.

First calculate cost to fill up your tank. For example, your tank can hold 80 L [B] of gasoline. Today price of gas was $1/L [A]. Then it will cost you $80 to fill up your tank. You also know that you can drive about 500 km [C] on your tank.

Therefore to find the Cost of Gas per Km [D] = $80 / 500 km [C] = $0.16/km or 16 cents per km.

Now you have coupon for 50 cents for orange juice. It takes about 10 km back and forth. Therefore, it will cost you $1.60 per that trip. Subtract 50 cents from the cost of your drive. As you can see you are not saving, you are actually spending additional $1.10. Well, you better be doing full grocery shopping then.

Take Advantage of the Free Stuff

Retailers and manufacturers are fighting to get consumer attention by offering lot of free stuff. It seems like this is a last marketing resource, because what could be better than free.

There are two ways to get free stuff. One is that you get something absolutely free, no strings attached. The other one is - buy one get second one for free. In the first option retailer hopes that you will buy something additional after receiving your free stuff or at least return to the store; but in the second option there is no hoping, you have to buy something to be rewarded.

The point of this post is, what are you waiting for, take advantage of the free stuff if you can. Here is the outline of some of the examples of getting free stuff.

Free Photo Prints
Many retailers will run special promotion offers for free prints if you order them online. Many of the photo centers will also give free prints for the new sign up accounts or new memberships. For example, once Wal-Mart was running this great promotion where after entering specific online code, you could receive 50 prints free. The most you could do for Wal-mart was to buy 51 prints. The the other time I found promotions in Real Canadian Superstore, 8x10 prints for 50 cents each, compared to $1.99 CAD or more for prints of this size.

Free Samples
I don't know if free samples are good idea. However, the best samples and free products I ever received was from baby formula and diaper companies. You can literally collect piles of huggies diapers everywhere where they sell baby products. Heinz will send you containers of free baby formula if you register with them. Companies that manufacture shampoos, conditioners, lotions and creams are willing to send you try out samples - but these are usually small, but good to use for your travel. Sometimes you can run into promotions from Nutella, or Power Bars. And when you hungry, you can go to Costco, and you can practically get full lunch with a desert when you march through the isles and pick up samples.

Free Points on Credit Cards
You have nothing to loose if you are asked to apply for the points card. Collect PC Points, AirMiles, Aeroplan, Optimum, Petro Points. I just love when I go to the store, and get full cart of groceries for under ten dollars. The best shopping I ever had was at the Shoppers Drug Mart. I accumulated points for products worth $250.00 CAD, just had to pay taxes on the end.

Manufacturing Coupons
Coupon are usually tricky if you want to get free stuff. You have to wait for sales to minimize the final cost. However, if you search on line, sometimes manufacturers can send you coupons for free stuff, just because they want you to try their products.

Surveys
Surveys are not absolutely free, because you have to complete survey in order to get something. Surveys are different category, some put you into sweepstakes to win cash, which probably you will never win; in some you collect points and cash out when you reach so many points; and some pay you per survey completed. Sometimes you will be asked to try new products, so you may receive stuff like cereals, salad dressings, washing detergents, or soups to try. No objection to that one.

How To Get The Best Price on Everything - Grocery Promotions and Coupons Combined

To get the best price on everything is to take the advantage of promotions and coupons at the same time. Let me give you a prefect example. All prices in Canadian dollar.

Promotion and Coupon Combination Scenario One
Our local store was running special on a pure squeezed orange juice for $1.69 for 1.89 L, regular price approximately $3.99. A month before I picked up few coupons of this brand from some other store where the orange juice was located. The coupon was for $1. Since the coupon is from the manufacturer, who has nothing to do with store specials, this promotion and the coupon was allowed to be combined. How many times do you get pure orange juice not from concentrate for $0.69. Not many times.

Promotion and Coupon Combination Scenario Two
Another time another store was running special on the whole wheat or whole grain pasta. A dry pasta sometimes expensive. However, the price was dropped to $0.99 per package, 300 - 340 grams. This whole wheat pasta or whole grain pasta when not on sale, costs between $1.79 - $2.49. I had a manufacturing coupon that called $1.00 off when you purchase two packages. Again, since the coupon is from the manufacturer, who has nothing to do with store specials, this promotion and the coupon was allowed to be combined. How many times do you get whole wheat pasta for $0.50 a package. Not many times.

My recommendation is to keep your eyes wide open. Look around in the store for coupons. They usually are located in the isles with related products, such as cereal, baking products, pasta or drinks. Basically look every where in the store. Watch out for coupons that are for the same product. Some coupons may look the same, however, often the expiry dates are different, or how much off may be different also - then grab them and sort them later. Another place to look is in-store free magazines or calendars. You will find that lot of grocery stores prints annual calendar with recipes, and often inserts a sheet with coupons. Look for special brochures from Clip n Save or from GoCoupons.ca. Perfect example, one of the omega eggs have booklet with coupons usually from GoCoupons. ca.  Lastly, you can check out on-line, places like save.ca has many different brand coupons.

Things to watch out are: expiry dates and coupons for a specific size of the product. Lastly watch out because some coupons are designated for specific stores only, therefore, often you may find that other stores runs  a special on the same product with much lower price.

PROMOTION - a promotion that offers savings and only lasts certain period of time.

COUPON - a voucher that calls for designated amount off the original price; expiry dates apply.
